An Athletic Therapist is a health care professional that specializes in musculoskeletal disorders (muscle, bone, and joint dysfunctions), especially related to individuals pursuing an active lifestyle. An Athletic Therapist will assess, treat, rehabilitate, and educate an individual on his or her injury and can be found in both clinical and field settings. An Athletic Therapist assesses injuries and conditions, utilizes contemporary rehabilitative techniques, therapeutic modalities, soft tissue mobilization, physical reconditioning, stretching, exercises, prevention of injury, and supportive strapping procedures to promote an environment conducive to optimal healing in preparing the individual for safe reintegration into an active lifestyle.
CLINICAL ASSESSMENT AND REHABILITATION
Athletic Therapists are skilled in determining the cause of injury or pathology; they are able to prescribe preventative measures to avoid reoccurrence of specified conditions. When working with athletes, injured workers or the public at large, an Athletic Therapist’s main goal is to prevent injuries. Athletic Therapists utilize a wide range of active rehabilitation techniques to optimize healing and help reduce any long term problems associated with sustaining an injury.
